Lowestoft Vision Renewal April 2018

 

Lowestoft Vision was founded in August 2013 after businesses in the town voted yes to forming a Business Improvement District (BID). The yes vote meant that businesses agreed to pay an additional 1.5% levy of their rateable value with the funds being ring-fenced for projects in the BID area.

The time has now come to ask businesses to vote again to decide whether to continue for another five years with the high quality and successful projects and services provided by Lowestoft Vision.

You should have by now received your four- page consultation which gives a brief description about what we have achieved over the last five years and our aims for the next five years, should we receive a “yes” vote.

In April 2018 ballot papers will arrive at all BID businesses asking them to vote for the renewal of the Lowestoft Vision BID. The ballot will be carried out via post and full details of how to vote will be sent out with the ballot notice.

Voting yes will secure the BID in Lowestoft for the next five years and ensure investment will go towards improvements to make Lowestoft an even greater place to work, visit and do business.

Voting will be open from 27 April 2018 and votes must be returned by 5pm 24 May 2018.

Without a successful yes vote, Lowestoft Vision will cease as a company along with all of the benefits of its various projects as services, some of which are listed below. A simple majority of the votes cast is all that is needed to keep Lowestoft Vision continuing with its ongoing projects and start exciting new ones. 

What will be lost if Lowestoft Vision BID is not renewed?

. Town radio security scheme and Shop Watch app

. Events including: Christmas light switch on, Freddie the Fish trail, the1940s weekend,  Spooky Saturday and the annual Pancake Race

. Cardboard Collection scheme

. Christmas lights and Christmas trees

. Discover Lowestoft website and social media

. Hanging baskets and floral displays

. A voice for businesses

To create a safe and secure environment that encourages customers to enjoy their experience in the town, whilst welcoming new business opportunities.

Our dedicated Police Community Support Officer for the BID area has helped to reduce crime in the BID area. This is also supported by the town Security radio Scheme. For more information on this click here.

We aim to create a clean welcoming environment for our community and visitors.

Since 2013 we have enhanced the retail area of the BID by providing street decorations, floral Displays and festive lights. Working with partners and local businesses we provide services which include the removal of graffiti and additional litter clearance.

Supporting our members and helping to reduce waste costs we offer a free weekly cardboard collection service.

Encourage and look at ways to improve access into and out of the BID area for consumers and Businesses.

Lowestoft Vision have been able to provide a range of free parking schemes in partnership with the local council. In addition we have supported our colleagues at Suffolk Chamber with the business case for Lowestoft’s Third crossing.

Encourage the community and visitors into the BID area by hosting a wide range of events and marketing campaigns that increase footfall and spend to businesses.

Lowestoft Vision will continue to market the town through the Discover Lowestoft brand which we launched in 2015.

To drive footfall to the retail area we will continue to host four main events each year.
