Lowestoft Vision the town’s business improvement district (BID) which is part of Lowestoft & Waveney Chamber of Commerce announced this week that they have submitted an application for the Great British High Street Awards.

The Awards which are a government initiative have been designed to raise the profile of our town centres. The Awards praise the works undertaken by BIDs, local authorities or town management groups to tackle issues and encourage people to use their town centre.

Lowestoft Vision decided to submit an application highlighting the success of the town events and marketing which has seen footfall in the town centre increase by 6% in the period between Apr – June 2015.

In May 2015 Lowestoft Vision launched “Discover Lowestoft” a new brand to promote the town as a destination and highlight news, events and services. Since this time social media interaction has grown by 30% and the website is performing above target.

Lowestoft Vision launched the 2015 Turtle Trail on the 11th July and was part of the group who organised the 2015 Lowestoft Festival which included Street Velodrome in the town centre.

In addition to these Lowestoft Vision funds the town centre floral displays, street decoration and part funds a dedicated Police Community Support Officer with Suffolk Constabulary. Recently Lowestoft Vision with Waveney District Council and Waveney Norse began a programme to replace and improve town centre benches and bins to make the town More Attractive. Shortly Lowestoft Vision will be releasing details of Halloween and Christmas Activity.

Darren Newman Lowestoft Vision BID manager said “We are now beginning to see some really positive return as a result of Lowestoft Vision projects and we a pleased to submit our application to the Great British High Street”

“The Awards look for innovation, collaboration and outcomes, the new branding, the way we use social media plus by adding apps to activity such as the Turtle Trail has shown how we have been innovative in attracting customers into the town centre, We have worked with a range of agencies on successful events, along with providing floral display and by adding a dedicated PCSO to the BID area. The results we are now seeing in the town prove that all of these things are beginning to have an impact”.

Lowestoft Vision are now asking members of the community in supporting them with their application by posting on social media. Those wishing to show their support can add comments to the Lowestoft Vision Facebook page or tweeting #Lowestoft #GBHighSt on twitter.

Darren added “We know that there is still much work to be done in the town and Lowestoft Vision will continue to tackle these issues. But we hope that members of our community will support the application and help us raise the profile of Lowestoft town centre”.

Entries for the Great British High Street close on the 1st September 2015, with 3 finalists in each category being shortlist and winners announced at the end of November.
