Makeover for Lowestoft department store

Lowestoft department store Godfreys has recently received a makeover as part of the Channel 4 programme Mary Portas Secret Shopper. Full details of the programme and viewing dates are still yet to be released, however the transformation of the store has been a hit with shoppers.

Over the past 2 weeks Mary has been in town to launch the opening and rebranding of departments within the shop. Members of the public were able to speak with Mary as she was shown the transformation by the management at Godfreys.

The new entrance on Suffolk Road was the first area to be opened. In store customers were able to view the modern, fresh looking home section which includes furniture, cushions, rugs and many more accessories. The new area enables customers to easily view the wide range of products on offer.

The following week the new Lifestyle department was opened which seemed to be an instant hit, showcasing some of Godfreys most popular items for the home.

In addition to the changes to the store, staff are now in a new informal uniform and attend a range of training courses.

‘The time we have spent with Mary during the process of making the programme has been invaluable. The knowledge, experience and skills she has provided us with have made us look at the shop in a completely different light. We could certainly be accused of being old fashioned in the past but we now intend to modernise both the shop and the products we sell, so the entire store reflects what we have done in the two departments already. We’ll still stock some of the old favourites but they’ll be displayed in a more visually pleasing and accessible way.

Making the programme has been extremely hard work but we are all so pleased and proud of ourselves when we look at what we have achieved in such a short space of time. These are exciting times for Godfreys and we will not be stopping here, we intend to embrace our new vision and look forward to a fantastic Christmas and hopefully many years of successful trading ahead of us!’

The changes to the store even prompted a tweet about products in the store from Mary herself and on her last visit she made a purchase.

For those who have not visited Godfreys which is located on Suffolk Road it is certainly a must see when you are next in the town.
