Easy access, effective parking schemes and tidy streets are vital for a modern day town. Lowestoft Vision is continuing to work with partners to ensure that access and infrastructure are fit for purpose.
Access and Infrastructure
In 2014 Lowestoft Vision in partnership with Lowestoft & Waveney Chamber of Commerce successfully lobbied Suffolk County Council to change the traffic management arrangement during a period of road works in central Lowestoft. The outcome of which decreased trail times and disruption.
Being part of the Suffolk Chamber family has enabled Lowestoft Vision to be included in the Lowestoft Transport and Infrastructure Project. In November 2015 Lowestoft Vision updated members and asked for feedback on possible changes to traffic systems in the town. Lowestoft Vision continues to work with partners to ensure member’s voices are heard and traffic congestion is improved.
As plans move forward for the towns much need Third River crossing, Lowestoft Vision has agreed to be part of a consultation group which will enable us to provide members with updates and ensure that business views are heard.
Lowestoft Vision in partnership with Waveney District Council trialed a period of free parking on Thursdays after 3pm from October 2014 – January 2015. The time frame was chosen as a way of increasing footfall during off peak periods in the town. The trial period also covered late night Christmas shopping. Following the trial it was agreed by the board to look at other options which could provide a greater impact on the town.
In December 2015 Lowestoft Vision responded to the district Councils announcement to increase parking charges across the district. As part of the response Lowestoft Vision put forward the business case for reducing charges to increase the volume of cars using the facilities. Since the car parking review Lowestoft Vision has continued to work with Waveney District Council on future options for free and reduced car parking.
Parking is now free every Wednesday from 3pm and all day every Sunday
Lowestoft Vision continues to lobby Suffolk Police, Suffolk County Council, Waveney District Council and Waveney MP Peter Aldous to resolve the enforcement of on street parking.
