Lowestoft 1940's weekend - How you could get involved

Lowestoft will be going back in time on Saturday the 27th and Sunday 28th May 2017.

The idea of the weekend is to celebrate Lowestoft, what has come from Lowestoft during the 40’s and to remember it is a town to be proud of.

The event will take place from the Triangle Market, all the way down to Station square and will include the Britten centre old market area.

There will be 5 ‘Zones’. The first being the Children’s Village which will be at the Triangle market, and this will include Punch and Judy, food, drinks, entertainments and traditional Children rides. Then further along down towards Beales Department Store, this will become Be-bop Avenue where there will be a stage with a full programme for both days with live music and a 40’s Dj. London Road North, between Starbucks and Sports Direct will become Vintage Valley, and this will be a vintage vehicle display area. From Waterstones, through Britten Centre and the old market area will be Archive Avenue, with Exhibitions from the Record Office and Hoseasons, outside WH Smith there will be live shows of Lowestoft during the 40’s, and then from Boots on london Road North to Mcdonalds will be Stomper Street, this will have stalls and re-enactments.

We are encouraging anyone involved in the event to dress the part. Most of the retailers we have spoken to so far will be dressing up so they are really getting into the swing of things. We will also be running a competition for the best 40’s themed window display, perhaps you could even hold a workshop within your store that relates to the 40’s. If you do not have a shop directly on London Road North or the Triangle market, the area called Stomper street is free for you to have a ‘pop up’ stall to sell your goods, run promotions etc, you are more than welcome to promote where your shop/business is. Please do let me know as soon as possible if you are interested in having a stall.

We want to teach the people of Lowestoft, and our visitors exactly what Lowestoft has been through, that the town have fought back from the war and that incredible things have risen from this town.

Anything that you can bring to this weekend, especially for both days would be fantastic. We are really encouraging everyone to take part in this and we are including as many businesses, organisations, schools and retailers as possible.

Please could you confirm what you will be doing for the weekend so we can put this into all our marketing and programmes.
